Looking for the Genetic Roots of the Japanese

47 minutes 45 seconds -

Note that the Japanese sequence is 21% Unknown Other. I wonder if they have researched more into it and now know what the 21% other is?

Delves into genetic research which has totally changed notions of who the Japanese are. Overturns Korean claims that the Japanese are descendants of Koreans. Rather, the Japanese are a very diverse people made up of Ainu, Okinawan, Chinese, Korean, and various other genetic sequences.

The Modern Japanese were thought to be a mixture of ancient Jomon and Yayoi Peoples. Recent Genetic Research has proven that the Jomon and Yayoi People themselves were a mixed ethnicity even when they first reached the Japanese Islands.

Also shows the Ainu People, indigenous people to Northern Japan who have their own language, custom, and cultures. Genetic Research has uncovered that the Ainu, who some believe are partly Caucasian, are in fact direct descendants of the Jomon Japanese. It also uncovers that the Ketchua People of the South American Andes, who created the Incan Empire, are genetically the closest people on earth to the Ainu, in turn meaning that the Incans are genetically identical to Jomon Japanese.

NOTE: 37:22 It is not 1.5 million years, but 1.5 billion.

There is mounting archeological, and genetic evidence (embarassing at least to the Japanese public, that these evidences are not provided by Korean scholars but mostly Western sources) that most Japanese share a direct gene segement that inherited from Koreans long time ago.

I saw the first part that you posted on youtube and was led here! I would like to view the entire video; unfortunately, the video here is having some difficulty playing on my computer. Is there any way you could post the rest of the program on you tube? :)

hilarious.

nice.

This would be perfect to prove the idea of gene flow, and correlate that with what occured 5-7 million years ago, and then again about 2.5and 1.5 million years ago...

Excellent documentary. This is the most logical theory in my opinion and I agree with it.
It's a shame some people out there wants to believe in something different only for the sake of wishing to belong to a "pure" or "unique" people.

Thanks for sharing this.

Wow! The guy on the pic looks completely europic. Is this phenotyp common for the ainu-people?

That would only be true if Koreans had 100% Korean genes and Chinese people had 100% Chinese genes. Koreans only have 40% Korean genes. Which is awfully close to Japans 25% Korean genes. You make the assumption that Koreans possess 100% Korean genes which means they only contributd to 25% of Japans gene pool which is false. Much of the other genes including the Chinese pool also comes from people of the Korean peninsula. Again, Koreans do not have 100% Korean genes. They have genes from a wide variety of different races as well. Much like how Japanese do not have 100% Japanese genes.

There is also no such thing as a Korean gene, Chinese gene or Japanese gene. Those genes are nothing more then genes that show up more frequently in a certain ethnicity. Its quite obvious that the Yayoi were descended from Koreans. The word Nippon was even coined by a Korean scholar. The Japanese emperors holy sword and mirror were gifts from a Korean merchant. And a large percentage of Japanese nobles during the Wa were of Korean heritage. Culture during this time period always flowed from the peninsula to the island.

However, I do agree with you on Koreans and Japanese not being the same. They split up centuries ago. They are more like cousins rather than blood brothers. Koreans are more of northern stock which is why they are taller, heavier built, bigger boned and seem to be more athletic. While the Japanese are from the south which is why they are shorter, squatter, and have more body hair.

As for the Ainu being caucasians. There is no evidence to support such a claim. Ainu are even more distant to caucasians then Koreans and Mongols. This likely applies to the Yayoi as well. Some theories suggest that Ainus were descended from people similar to the aborigines of Australia. Google them up and youll notice that both groups are short, have flat noses, hairy, sport large beards, and sport big eyes. In fact they look practically identical excluding their skin color. They are mirror images. The Ainu are also shorter than the Yayoi which is a complete reversal of the average Caucasian who is taller then the Yayoi and northern asians in general.

Another thing id like to state is that the Ainu didnt live in Japan only. Ainu genes are not unique to Japan only. They lived in the Sakhalins, Siberia and even Korea. The Ainu lived on the mainland and over centuries were pushed back by the technologically and numerically superior east asian stocks. Those who stayed were absorbed, others moved elsewhere. Several Ainu tribes for instance were recorded to have been absorbed into Goguryeo. Its likely that even older Korean tribes also pushed and integrated the Ainus who lived in the peninsula. Compared to Japans recent absorbtion of the Ainus which happened less then 200 years ago. There arnt any pure Ainus in Korea today much like how there arnt going to be any pure Ainus left in Japan centuries from now. Thats what happens when a much larger group swallows a smaller group. Over several generations the smaller groups genes become diluted and eventually minimized in the overall pool. Ainu will marry Yayoi whos children will marry another Yayoi and their children will marry Yayoi. Over several generations the Ainu is mostly gone. This happened in Korea centuries before it will happen in Japan. Koreans are far more genetically diverse than the Japanese. Japan might have clear lines to distinguish different ethnicities-Yayoi, Ainu and Okinawans. But Koreans are mixed with countless different ethnic groups. Japan was an island of little resources and strategic value. It was rarely invaded. Throughout Japans history, im not even sure if Japan was invaded more than 5 times. Korea on the other hand was invaded hundreds if not thousands of times by different groups. Its admixture is far greater despite it being more homogeneous then Japan.

The pictured Ainu man looks nothing like an Australian aborigine. He has more of a Slavic or perhaps even a Celtic appearance. Physical features are empirical evidence, albeit they can at times be too subjective, so they should not be discounted.

You just hurt your own argument by stating that appearance was subjective.

Trust me, Ainu do not look slavic or celtic. They look like white skinned Australian Aborigines. They are even similar in height and other features. They are practically identical in all features excluding skin color.

Slavic and Celtic caucasians are taller, have sharper noses, bigger builds, long legs and less roundish faces. They do not resemble the Ainu.

Ainu both have large flat noses and flat faces. Short bodies(Ainu are even shorter then native Japanese). Short squat legs. Lots of body hair and full beards.

I laugh whenever some Japanese nationalist believes Ainu people are somehow related to whites and therefore superior to other asians. Sorry but thats not the case. Ainu are not related to caucasians.

Jomon=Emishi=Ezo=Ainu.
They are the same people living for over 15.000 years in the same area.
If we could gather all the Japanese in four peole, one of them will be Ainu, the second Korean, the third Chinese and the fourth will be polynesian.
But never forget that all the people on earth we are "Home Sapiens" and that the place and the climate make the difference.

When I was in Mongolia, they thought I looked Korean and I am going to take this as a compliment. ^^
They thought my friend looked Mongolian and some other guy looked Han Chinese.
We were all Japanese - so case in point - we are in all likelihood very mixed.
Old people going on about racial superiority is one thing but it really exasperates me when younger generations talk as though they were from another century.
